• Chelsea midfielder came through after suffering ankle injury • ‘This was really just a week or so without pain,’ says Tuchel
Thomas Tuchel has praised Jorginho after the Brazil-born midfielder came through the Premier League match at Newcastle United despite suffering a serious ankle injury.
Jorginho injured his right ankle in training before the match against Newcastle on Monday but made himself available to the manager with a successful MRI scan in his dressing room, in spite of lingering pain.

“This was really just a week or so without pain,” Tuchel said. “In this situation, it’s my opinion that it’s not worth having a man on the bench who is going to be a risk to a lot of points.
“He didn’t want to stop. I don’t think Jorginho could have played today with only pain and discomfort. It’s a good example to young people. You should never give up if something is serious or it gets worse or not fit.”
