Lizzo Announces Plans for Out100

Lizzo grants queer writer Aurielle Marie’s wish: A fab dress to wear to Out100 honors in NYC

This week, Lizzo announced plans for an event to bring the country’s most fabulous queer voices together to celebrate LGBTQ individuals who have achieved extraordinary success. The event, named, you guessed it, Out100, will be held at the Prudential Center in New York City, on Sunday, February 6.

Last weekend, Lizzo released her new music video for “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” featuring actor James McDaniel as Lauryn. The song, which appears on the soundtrack to the upcoming film, centers on Lauryn Hill’s struggle to accept herself as an African-American woman in the 1980s and 1990s. In the video, she makes a wish as she stands by the side of the road that she can get a fabulous dress to wear to the event.

“I am really excited to be a part of Out100! The queer movement is amazing and strong, and it’s so important that we continue to show it and celebrate its achievements,” says Lizzo, who attended the Prudential Center’s “Day of Action for the 2017 Out100” with her entire family.

Out100 is the first major queer night of its kind. In January 2017, Lizzo went to the gym to tell her friend and mentor, actor and comedian Chris Rock, that he should run in the 5K and he did. “He said afterwards, ‘I did it for you,’ but I said, ‘No, you did it because I said I wanted to be an Out100 ambassador.’ So he said, ‘But you’re already an ambassador!’ I said, ‘Oh, fuck you. You want me to be an ambassador so I can be an ambassador?’”
