MMX II MotoGP: Italian athlete zooms to three consecutive titles

A knack for morphing into two iconic skateboarders has enabled Italian forward and MotoGP standout Pecco Bagnaia to nab three consecutive titles on the US$100,000 USDIRT Weekly Skateboarding Tour.

The 22-year-old repeat IMSA Rookie of the Year, closed out an unbeaten season late last month by winning back-to-back final events, which had him atop the series standings.

The April 18-19 date in Daytona Beach, Florida, served as this season’s highlight with Bagnaia topping Danny Walker in the Turquoise Downs Grand Prix to win for the third time in four races. His dominating performance came after winning the Italian GP in Florence on March 10 for his first career MotoGP win and seventh overall on the UST circuit.

Bagnaia’s third world championship crown is the fourth of his career. His crowns in the masters categories at the 2017 Masters Skateboarding National Championships and the 2018 IMSA World Championships in January and February were his first titles ever in those categories. He continued his dominant Skateboarding National Skateboard Championship season in November when he won the event in Melbourne, California.
