Riverside County mailed out 5,000 duplicate ballots in error, but double votes won’t go through to the polls Nov. 8, officials say.
“The county does not have any evidence of fraud, but the county was required to notify voters in error,” Riverside County Elections officials told FOX59 on Friday. “We do not have any evidence or indication there was any fraud.”
The error was discovered during the processing of duplicate ballots, Riverside County Elections officials said. The county mailed out 5,000 duplicate ballots in error, but double votes won’t go through to the polls Nov. 8, officials said. Riverside County Elections officials told FOX59 the 5,000 people who received the duplicate mailers were mailed them in error. There is no indication that any voters were harmed during the mailings of duplicate ballots, they said.
The most recent totals from the Riverside County Registrar of Voters show that more than 5,400 people have been mailed the mailings, but the most number of people mailed the second or duplicate ballot mailers was 2,600.
Officials in Riverside County informed voters that, “If you are receiving a duplicate ballot for a second choice the correct ballot is on file.”
