Steve Gerrard makes his debut as Chelsea boss at Stamford Bridge

Good morning, Sports Round-Up. England’s players will have been wondering if so many high-profile absences means so much lost opportunity.

Aston Villa brought on Harry Kane to create the first real threat of the England Under-21 games before the striker was substituted on 31 minutes. There were also some first competitive England football starts for Sean Dyche’s two out-of-contract players from Burnley, Matt Lowton and Stephen Ward. But only Kane, the Spurs forward, started for Gareth Southgate’s first-choice England squad, breaking John Stones’ 80-day record.

Jose Mourinho has returned to the Stamford Bridge dugout to chase a win to keep Chelsea’s top-four aspirations on track as the Reds enter full attack mode with Steven Gerrard on the scene for his first home match for the second-placed team.

With City still with a three-point lead over both Chelsea and Liverpool, this is a key occasion for Mourinho to take charge of a derby for the first time since the 2-0 win over Arsenal in October 2005. Victory over West Ham this weekend would take Chelsea’s record to five wins and a draw from five games this season.

We’ll keep you posted of any updates from the Tottenham-Wolves game before taking you straight through the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
